Ubi Soft Entertainment UBIP.PA has been designated the lead bidder for bankrupt game publisher 3DO Co.'s "Might and Magic" assets, according to papers posted on Friday. The agreement with Ubi Soft, one of seven companies to qualify by Wednesday's deadline as bidders for 3DO's properties, was posted on 3DO's bankruptcy Web site and listed a purchase price of $1.3 million for the assets (thanks HLF). Capt. Guy Smiley has sent us a note to let the 'Battlefield: Pirates' fans known a new alpha v0.2 will be released in the coming 2-3 weeks. Originally it was being held back until EA would fix the "flying" bug but alas such has not happened yet. Tri Synergy has signed Russian publisher Buka Entertainment's (developed by Saturn+) adventure game Midnight Nowhere. Midnight Nowhere is a 3D visually stunning horror survival adventure with a very involute plot. In this suspenseful, story-driven adventure you will solve numerous puzzles and battle creatures of the dark to reveal the ultimate mystery. Besides the main character seems to have nearly a limitless supply of witty comments, which luckily makes the game a tad less serious. The mix of humor and violence works very well though, keeping you on the edge of your seat, both laughing and in fright.

CDV released their outlook on the figures for the second quarter of the current year and announced rigorous restructuring measures. In the statement they reveal that "Galaxy Andromeda" (their 3D space strategy game previously known as Imperium Galactica III) has been canned and will no longer be released. Ok, somebody needs to make up their mind and stop toying with all the HL2 fans out there. After a rumoured delay about a week ago, and then rather dismissed as a "miscommunication", our Nordic colleague's over at Gamereactor now have "confirmed" word from Vivendi Norway that HL2 is indeed being delayed. Got Game Entertainment and Anima Ppd/Interactive today announced a North American publishing agreement for "Conspiracies" a PC DVD Full Motion Video detective adventure game.

GameSpot reports that Eidos today announced that Republic: The Revolution has gone gold and confirmed the UK release date for the game as September 5. The game, which was developed by Elixir Studios, will challenge players to rise to power in the fictional former Soviet republic of Novistrana, which is being controlled by a ruthless dictator. Further immersing gamers into its gritty, first-person war-torn thriller Call of Duty, Activision, Inc. has enlisted Jason Statham and Giovanni Ribisi to provide their trademark voice talent in key roles.
