Mosquito Squadron - Facts & Screens

by Rainier on April 16, 2002 @ 8:03 p.m. PDT

Just Flight has announced the launch of Mosquito Squadron - the first simulation ever seen of this much-loved World War II aircraft! Designed to work with the multi-million selling Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000/2002 and Combat Flight Simulator 2 series, the Mosquito FB.Mk VI is in the Just Flight hangar getting a final polish and check before it's maiden flight tomorrow.

Just Flight and developer's Blue Arrow (responsible for the impressive Battle of Britain Memorial Flight expansion) have recreated an authentic re-creation of the 'Wooden Wonder'. And it's probably one of the most remarkable aircraft expansions ever produced.

When the men from the Air Ministry went to a demonstration flight of the de Havilland D.H.98 prototype in late 1940, they were amazed to see a twin-engined aircraft that could outperform almost all the RAF's front line fighters. It could climb to over 35,000 feet and its top speed was approaching 400mph. What's more, as much of the airframe was made of wood, it didn't rely on large amounts of hard-to-find steel or aluminium. They weren't long in placing an order for what was to become one of Britain's most successful aircraft - the de Havilland Mosquito. It went on to excel as a fighter, bomber and reconnaissance aircraft in almost every theatre of war and didn't go out of service until 1961.

The highly detailed cockpit, external model and carefully researched flight model come together in Flight Simulator to give you a flying experience that’s so exciting you’ll think you’re in a real warbird.

Mosquito Squadron includes a highly detailed, visually accurate Mosquito FB. Mk VI, complete with custom designed instrument panels, gauges, flight model and sounds. You'll also find authentic scenery of RAF Methwold and the village of Methwold itself. Flying the Mosquito in Flight Simulator is an incredible experience and an ex-RAF aircrew who had a spin in the cockpit via FS2002 described it as "…amazing. It made me feel twenty again!". The comprehensive printed manual, with aircraft notes and background on Mosquito operations is included, rounds of the package wonderfully.

The real Mosquito excelled in combat and the one in Mosquito Squadron is no exception. CFS2 pilots will find 21 historically accurate missions waiting to be completed, including train busting, low level attacks and even the famous Operation JERICHO, where Mosquitoes attacked Amiens prison to free allied prisoners.

For Combat Flight Simulator 2 pilots there's the same detailed aircraft and scenery as well as the opportunity to fly the Mosquito in combat with 21 highly accurate and authentic missions. They range from train busting and low-level attacks to a chance to take part in Operation JERICHO, the famous Mosquito raid on Amiens prison and other notable raids of WWII.

Fly the plane that outflew the opposition - operations begin tomorrow at dawn! Your ticket to ride should cost less than £24.99/€35.
