Thursday June 29, 2006 Shipping Announcements

by Rainier on June 29, 2006 @ 2:00 p.m. PDT

Another day, another batch of games shipped to stores. Instead of giving them all their own posts, we grouped them, and so far there are announcements for:

Deep Sea Tycoon: Diver’s Paradise (PC)

Beautiful graphics and lush environments promise hours of entertainment for all ages. Deep Sea Tycoon: Diver’s Paradise is one of the most beautifully immersive casual games for the PC this year.

“When we picked up Deep Sea Tycoon: Diver’s Paradise, I knew we had something special,” said Lars Batista, Vice President of Product Development at eGames. “An amazing casual title with shimmering visuals and unsurpassable gameplay, Deep Sea Tycoon is exactly the kind of game that eGames wants to offer gamers at a great value.”

Developed by Pixel after Pixel and published by eGames, Deep Sea Tycoon: Diver’s Paradise offers players the chance to envelop themselves in a flourishing undersea environment. Create your ideal oceanic hideaway, complete with sea creatures and guests! Like Tycoon games of the past, players will be responsible for the health and happiness of their visitors and attractions alike. The interface allows for ease of use and adds to the relaxing nature of the game itself. Sit back, relax, and let the beautiful visuals and calming effects of the ocean carry you away to your undersea retreat.

Deep Sea Tycoon: Diver’s Paradise is available now everywhere games are sold for $19.99.

Darwinia (PC)

Darwinia combines fast paced action with strategic battle planning, a novel and intuitive control mechanism, a graphical style ripped from 80's retro classics, and a truly unique story concerning a tribe of video game sprites trapped in a modern 3D game world.

“Vastly different from anything I have ever seen or played, I fell in love with Darwinia from the moment I saw it,” said Lars Batista, Vice President of Product Development at eGames. “The game experience in Darwinia is really a work of art, something completely original. It’s a throwback to the classic days of computer gaming, while at the same time futuristic and brand new.”

Developed by Introversion Software, proudly appointing themselves as the last of the bedroom programmers, the team put together one of the most innovative games of the year in Darwinia. The game won the Grand Prize at the 2006 Independent Games Festival.

The world of Darwinia is surreal, filled with epic fractal vistas and populated by iconic video game sprites from classic 80’s games. Tribes of Darwinians roam the landscape, embodied as 2D sprites lost within a 3D world. The in-game audio has been carefully designed to emulate the essence of 8 bit sound, typically found on 80’s arcade machines and home consoles. The sound stage is generated in real-time using a combination of emulated 80’s sound chips and cutting edge audio filters running on modern hardware, something unprecedented. Darwinia creates a visually and conceptually unique world.

Darwinia is available now at North American retailers for $29.99. As a bonus, the retail package also includes an exclusive Darwinian keychain and poster.
