Friday, April 10, 2009 Shipping Announcements

by Rainier on April 10, 2009 @ 10:45 a.m. PDT

Another day, another batch of games shipped to stores. Instead of giving them all their own posts, we grouped them, and so far there are announcements for:

Dragonball: Evolution (PSP)

Based on the highly anticipated Twentieth Century Fox feature film of the same name, Dragonball: Evolution extends the theatrical experience outside of the movie theater and successfully recreates it on a handheld device. With a familiar cast of the characters and timeless fast-paced action, Dragonball: Evolution provides an immersive take on the classic martial arts genre.

Ultimate powers collide as players match up against their favorite characters from the movie and battle for control of the seven sacred Dragon Balls. Dragonball: Evolution employs an easy-to-learn yet difficult-to-master fighting system which provides everyone the power to pull off stylish and dynamic attacks. Ki (energy) management will be essential to gain the upper hand and unleash a devastating attack on unsuspecting opponents.

Dragonball: Evolution has been specially crafted for the PSP system with game modes that are ideal for on-the-go play. In Story Mode, follow the path of Goku as he makes his way through an exhilarating story to find Master Roshi. Arcade Mode brings the fight directly to players as they can select their favorite characters and take on numerous challenges. Mission Mode will have players taking on specific tasks and unlocking additional game content. Additionally with Network Battle Mode, players can challenge their friends over an Ad-Hoc wireless connection and recreate all the awesome battles from the movie.

The motion picture Dragonball: Evolution, starring Justin Chatwin (War of the Worlds), Emmy Rossum (The Day After Tomorrow), Jamie Chung (Samurai Girl) and Chow Yun Fat (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), along with James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Eriko Tamura (NBC’s Heroes) and international pop sensation Joon Park, will be released by Twentieth Century Fox April 10, 2009.

Braid (PC)

Braid is a puzzle-platformer, drawn in a painterly style, where the player manipulates the flow of time in strange and unusual ways. From a house in the city, journey to a series of worlds and solve puzzles to rescue an abducted princess. In each world, you have a different power to affect the way time behaves, and it is time's strangeness that creates the puzzles. The time behaviors include: the ability to rewind, objects that are immune to being rewound, time that is tied to space, parallel realities, time dilation, and perhaps more. Braid treats your time and attention as precious; there is no filler in this game. Every puzzle shows you something new and interesting about the game world.

Key Features :

  • Forgiving yet challenging gameplay: Braid is a 2-D platform game where you can never die and never lose. Despite this, Braid is challenging—but the challenge is about solving puzzles, rather than forcing you to replay tricky jumps.
  • Rich puzzle environment: Travel through a series of worlds searching for puzzle pieces, then solving puzzles by manipulating time: rewinding, creating parallel universes, setting up pockets of dilated time. The gameplay feels fresh and new; the puzzles are meant to inspire new ways of thinking.
  • Aesthetic design: A painterly art style and lush, organic soundtrack complement the unique gameplay.
  • Nonlinear story: A nonlinear fiction links the various worlds and provides real-world metaphors for your time manipulations; in turn, your time manipulations are projections of the real-world themes into playful "what-if" universes where consequences can be explored.
  • Nonlinear gameplay: The game doesn't force you to solve puzzles in order to proceed. If you can't figure something out, just play onward and return to that puzzle later.

Available on Xbox Live Arcade, Number None Inc.’s Braid, rated E10+ for Everyone, is now available on Steam, Impulse and Greenhouse for $14.95.
