KARMA EXPLODES INTO KABOOM

by Rainier on Oct. 25, 2001 @ 1:41 p.m. PDT

Leading European games development group chooses Karma physics for integration into tool chain. MathEngine plc is pleased to announce that Kaboom Studios has signed a ‘site licence’ agreement allowing it to use Karma, its physics simulation toolkit, in any future game development.
Kaboom Studios, Europe’s largest independent games developer, brings together three of Europe’s premier computer game development studios – Silicon Dreams, Attention to Detail (ATD) and Pivotal Games – a development studio for interactive new media (Gamesworks) and Europe’s largest motion capture studio (Audiomotion).

Titles already in development using Karma include the much-anticipated Desert Storm from Pivotal Studios (to be published by SCi) and ATD’s forthcoming officially-licensed Winter Olympics game.

"The fact that our teams have an underlying knowledge of how physics works means we can get stuff working very quickly," says Fred Gill, Technical Director of Kaboom. "And that's where we get the buzz – seeing effects in the game rather than carrying out the legwork of low-level implementation."

"It's very pleasing to us that the high-profile teams within the Kaboom stable, with such impressive track records in creating their own programming tools and game environments, have chosen Karma," says Mike Gamble, Business Development Director for MathEngine. "This is a ringing endorsement of the fact that robust and well-developed middleware such as Karma can free vital development resources and allow creative teams to concentrate on what they do best… making great, playable games."

One of the principal reasons that Kaboom has chosen Karma was its ability to save time in the development process. Fred Gill explains: "In a recent project, we had planned to have our internal physics engine running after eight months, but Karma allowed us to do that within a couple of weeks. More than just saving time, we are buying back time so we can add more of the features that are on our wish list."
