Sky Digital and Team 17 announce major games deal… In a world exclusive move, Sky Digital and Team 17 have announced a deal which will see a specially-created Worms game launched exclusively on Sky’s Gamestar games portal.
Following the continued success of the Worms franchise, the Wakefield-based developer will release an all-new Worms game for Sky’s ‘Pay per Play’ service. The game retains the same blend of madcap humour and simple yet addictive gameplay that has seen the series sell over six million copies across a number of formats. As ever, player’s control a team of worms, as they enter a ‘last man standing’ stand off, but the Sky game offers ‘new interactive tv’ features as well as an ever-changing array of gameplay features, options and weapons.

The new Worms game represents another new direction for the world-renowned series. Said Team 17’s Commercial Director Debbie Bestwick: “Worms is the perfect game for iDTV technology as it is immediate with addictive gameplay, great replay value and appeals to all ages. Sky is working closely with Team 17 to bring one of the most playable games around into the Gamestar channel. The opportunity to raise the awareness of the Worms franchise is not only excellent news for Team 17 but for its boxed game publishing partners”

“Sky are delighted to announce this latest signing of another major games title, exclusive to Sky Gamestar,” added Sky’s Commercial Manager Richard Willis. “The Worms Series has been hugely successful across a multitude of platforms and this development highlights the exciting opportunity that Sky now offers in launching iDTV versions of classic and current titles for our 5.5 million subscribers.”
