Mike Tyson Boxing Goes 'Advance'

by Rainier on Nov. 22, 2001 @ 12:35 p.m. PST

The 2-time undisputed world champ isn't about to let you go the distance. In fact, he's planning to do some serious damage to your face on Game Boy Advance. Get up close and personal with every one of Tyson's rib-crunching body shots, brain-rattling roundhouses, and jaw-bustin' uppercuts.
Fight Mike. Or fight as Mike. Either way, someone will be prayin' for the bell--odds are, it's gonna be you...

Virtucraft, the developers of Prince Naseem Boxing (which has already established itself as the best boxing simulation on the handheld market) are working on a follow up to this title for Ubi Soft. Mike Tyson Boxing will feature all the action and speed of the GBC game but with greatly improved graphics, sound and logic. Animations and background graphics are now far richer and smoother and the sound and speech has been enhanced to make the experience of bone crunching punches even more realistic.

Gameplay

  • Choose from the 16 World Champion boxers, and fight with no weight restriction against another player or the computer.
  • 3 game modes: 'Vs' is a typical arcade mode, 'Showcase' a tournament game and 'World' a career based game mode.
  • Gameplay is simple, and very addictive.

Viewpoint

It is vital that the game will be seen from more or less an overhead view. As this view is somewhat uninteresting in terms of graphics developpers have opted to adopt a viewpoint of 80 degrees. They maintain the overhead view but introduce enough of a diagonal view to display various moves and punches plus we get some volume into the characters.
The player's boxer is viewed from behind, and the opponent from the front. The 'camera' and ring will rotate to keep the two boxers facing each other.
