Metro3D, Inc. today announces the nationwide release of Sub Rebellion exclusively for the Sony PlayStation2 game console, which begins shipment today at retail stores across the country. Developed by IREM SOFTWARE ENGINEERING INC., Sub Rebellion featuresa “Teen” ESRB Rating and a MSRP of $49.95.

This fast-paced 3-dimensional submarine exploration shooter, which was released as -U- Underwater Unit in Japan this May 2002 is quickly receiving critical industry acclaim in the U.S. market as well. Sub Rebellion recently received the Silver Award in the November issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, touted as “one of the most compelling single-player action games to come along in ages.” The game also received 4 stars (out of 5) by Official PlayStation Magazine, which praised Sub Rebellion as “one of the year’s biggest surprises.”

“The industry response to Sub Rebellion certainly indicates the strength of this title, which is fast becoming one of Metro3D’s hottest new sleeper hits to come out this year,” said Joseph Morici, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Metro3D. “Making it just in time for the holiday season, Sub Rebellion brings a whole new genre to life. One we’re sure will please the millions of PlayStation 2 fans that exist worldwide.”

In Sub Rebellion, players are taken to 2139, a time when the earth’s tectonic plates begin to shift, producing massive seismic activity throughout the world. As most of the worlds land sinks into the sea, civilizations change forever. Survivors of this era adapt to the new conditions of life under and above the sea. By 2145 two factions arise, the Meluguis Empire and the Alliance Army. The Alliance, in a desperate attempt to turn the tides on the war deploys the experimental Chronos attack submarine. Adrenaline-pumping action and adventure heat up as players move the Chronos sub at full speed around this post-apocalyptic underwater world. Players explore up to 20 massive levels of undersea and sea-to-surface missions using phenomenal X-sonar, evasion technologies and countermeasures to hunt down on-coming enemies, including subs, helicopters, and ships, as well as to track secret power-ups, ancient artifacts or buried treasures. Special treasures identified along the way provide hints about the ancient technology, and the ability to develop new weapons and additional sub features.

Staying one step ahead of the enemy is critical as the Chronos sub battles evil utilizing guided nuclear, ultrasonic and acoustic torpedoes for underwater overkill or surface-to-air missiles and short- and long-range weapons for above-the-sea mass destruction. A total of 10 different subs are featured in the game. As a unique offering, players can upgrade and modify their Chronos sub by finding bonus items along the way or by purchasing powerful new engines, shields, skins and torpedoes. Among the many great new features in the game is a fantastic display of hyper-realistic water physics, lighting effects and gorgeous 3-dimensional animation.

“We are very proud of Sub Rebellion and look forward to its success and popularity with PlayStation 2 fans in the U.S.,” said IREM SOFTWARE ENGINEERING. “Utilizing our own original in-house graphics engine, we were devoted to making Sub Rebellion one of the finest and most realistic
underwater submarine shooters available on the market.”

Along with the U.S. launch of the game, Metro3D is preparing to launch a series of Sub Rebellion television commercials, which begins airing October 28th and continues through November 18th, 2002. A combination of 15- and 30-second spots is expected to air during many of the top-rated shows for the teen and adult demographic (i.e., specifically males, ages 12 -to- 34 years) on the major cable networks, including Comedy Central, E!
