by Rainier on Oct. 29, 2002 @ 11:49 p.m. PST

Echelon uses a proprietary 3D graphics engine that allows for spectacular effects, such as dust and particle effects, highly realistic environments, beautiful landscapes, detailed building models, more than 25 types of friendly and enemy craft, 100 vehicles, and over 100 additional objects. In addition to several single-player campaigns, Echelon will support several multiplayer options including death match and co-op modes in a variety of game types.

Echelon is a futuristic military aircraft simulation set in the near distant future. The player assumes the role of a pilot of the Galactic Federation, defending a planet attacked by rebels in possession of secret alien technology, which, they hope will help them to overcome the Federation and conquer all the surrounding worlds. In the course of the game, the player advances his/her military career: success in battle brings ever – higher ranks, new opportunities to choose aircraft and weapons, and even to control squad actions or whole battles. There will be two war campaigns, each of which features a number of different missions, under various weather-conditions and at different time of day/night. The player will be able not only to control his own aircraft, but also to give orders to the members of his wing.

The broad range of selectable player craft includes various flight models - plane, helicopter, and gravity-defying, futuristic hovercraft - allowing for variety and challenge throughout the missions. Varied flight models for player craft make for challenging tactical combat in both single-player and multi-player offerings and have been designed to be fully playable with intuitive controls for keyboard, keyboard/mouse, or joystick.
