'AquaNox 2: Revelation' - Enemy Details & Screens

by Thomas on Dec. 6, 2002 @ 11:34 a.m. PST

JoWooD Productions is proud to announce official details of the enemy Artificial Intelligence used in the eagerly awaited AquaNox 2: Revelation, the incredible underwater action game.. Revelations about the enemy AI and five new watery, explodery screenshots below!

Significant time has been invested in creating excellent enemy AI within AquaNox 2: Revelation – with the main goal being to make enemy vehicles behave in as human-like a manner as possible. The result is a game featuring stunning battles against enemies that are incredibly difficult to defeat, ambush players when they least expect it, take up advantageous attacking positions during dogfights and weave intelligently to avoid being hit when under attack.

Among the numerous enemies, players will be confronted by snipers that will utilise concealed positions to accurately fire on their target over great distances. The sniper may even turn his vehicles' engines off so the players' sonar system and lock system cannot detect them. The only way the player can find them is to spot them through the murky water, therefore dramatically changing players in-game tactics as rushing into open areas may result in instantaneous death from a sniper hiding in the distance.

When in dogfights, the AI will mean enemies will attempt to get behind the players ship and remain there no matter how much the player tries to escape. Enemies will be able to strafe both horizontally and vertically, roll and loop during combat and retreat should the battle appear to be lost. Gamers will then have to rapidly alter their playing style to combat the adversaries they face.

During combat in AquaNox 2: Revelation, enemies will be able to analyse the way the player fights, and modify their tactics accordingly. For example, if the player is strafing continuously, the enemy will use fast weapons which will spray bullets in all directions. However, if the player is not so agile, the enemy will shift to heavy and slower artillery.

Ground vehicles featured within AquaNox 2: Revelation will be capable of digging themselves into the ground, then springing out and ambushing the player as they creep through the vast oceans.

Commenting on the game, Colin Grant, Marketing Manager of JoWooD Productions said: "The enemies within AquaNox 2: Revelation are so highly intelligent that they've probably all got degrees from Oxford! Their actions are so mind-boggling realistic that we seriously doubt that you'll believe they're all computer controlled. They'll bob and weave, they'll attack and defend and then they'll have a few major surprises in store for you."

AquaNox 2: Revelation for PC CD Rom will have an SRP of £29.99 and an ELSPA rating of 15+ when the game has its UK and US launch in Q1 2003..
