by Christian on Feb. 20, 2002 @ 3:43 p.m. PST

TDK today announced that "Dinotopia: The Timestone Pirates" for the Game Boy Advance will ship in April 2002. The release coincides with the premiere of the six-hour Dinotopia mini-series from Hallmark Entertainment which will air on the ABC television network starting May 12. In addition, ABC and Hallmark have announced the start of production of an all new Dinotopia television series.

Action-Adventure Title Featuring the World of Dinotopia Debuts May 2002

Based on James Gurney's utopian society of humans and dinosaurs, "Dinotopia" for Game Boy Advance will take players on a colorful action-adventure where Clayton, the young hero, sojourns across land, sea and air on a quest to return stolen eggs to a fierce herd of tyrannosaurs, and ultimately claims the legendary Timestone.

"James Gurney's complex fantasy world provides a rich backdrop for our upcoming title," said Vincent Bitetti, chief executive officer of TDK Mediactive. "Drawing from the wealth of `Dinotopia' background materials, we are developing an engrossing storyline and compelling characters for the game. Adding vibrant graphics and exciting gameplay, `Dinotopia' for the Game Boy Advance will capture the imagination and hearts of both children and adults."

Michael Stone, co-founder of The Beanstalk Group, who has overseen the `Dinotopia' licensing program since its publishing inception in 1993, commented: "This has been a long, inspiring journey for us as we have helped Jim Gurney bring his world of `Dinotopia' first to millions of readers, then television, and now to video games. Jim's vision is so detailed it truly comes alive -- providing the perfect material for truly amazing game play."

About "Dinotopia" for Game Boy Advance In an effort to secure a magical Timestone hidden deep within Tyrannosaurus territory, a band of marauding pirates stole precious eggs to lure the fierce dinosaur parents away from their nesting grounds. Clayton, young pilot and hunter of ancient artifacts, must collect the eggs and return them to their nests before the Tyrannosaur herd loses patience and invades peaceful Dinotopia. Battling hostile pirates and depending on friendly dinosaurs and intricate mechanical marvels to transport him over land, sea and air, Clayton must uncover the legendary Timestone before it falls into the wrong hands.

Players of "Dinotopia" can:

  • Venture into five beautiful levels in the world of "Dinotopia," including: Waterfall City, Treetown, Canyon City, Underwater, and Diamond Caverns.
  • Pilot a Pterodactyl, navigate a submarine, and ride a hadrosaur.
  • Uncover an intriguing plot as beautiful cinematic sequences propel the story.
  • Collect various health and power-ups, including herbs and "care packages" that restore health, and sunstones that shock, shake the ground or shoot laser beams.

About the "Dinotopia" License
