NEOCRON Takes Cebit Glory

by Thomas on March 22, 2002 @ 4:05 p.m. PST

Forthcoming Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game Wins Emil award at World’s Largest Computer Fair. A panel of judges at the world’s largest computer fair have voted Neocron ‘Most Interactive Product of CeBIT’ in its first ever annual Emil Awards.

Neocron beat off stiff competition to win the honour – a double triumph considering it is still some months from release. The game is due to be published throughout the world later in the year by CDV Entertainment Software AG.

Developed by Reakktor Media GmbH, Neocron is a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) set in a post-apocalyptic metropolis. In it, players become a citizen of Neocron, choosing an avatar from one of four classes: Psi Monk, Tank, Private Eye or Spy. Over 100,000 people the world over have signed up for the beta version of the game, now online at www.neocron.com.

The Emil awards at the CeBIT show are named after Emil Berliner, the inventor of the flat disc and the Gramophone and recognize innovation in the field of computing.

“This is a tremendous honour for everyone here and Reakktor,” says Axel Rathgeber, producer, CDV Software Entertainment AG. “Neocron is an ambitious title, way ahead of its time. It’s great to see its vision being rewarded by such a prestigious panel appointed by the region of Hanover."

Neocron will be published later this year by CDV Software Entertainment AG
