Managers Wanted for Top-Flight Football Clubs

by Rainier on March 26, 2002 @ 8:41 p.m. PST

On March 29th, Rangers Football Coach and Celtic Football Coach will be released on CD-ROM for the PC. So, while few fans will ever sit behind the managers’ desks at Ibrox or Celtic Park, any fan with a home PC will be able to take charge of either team through these unique simulations.
Celtic and Rangers: the giants of Scottish football, and amongst Europe’s greats. Managing one of these teams would be a dream come true for any football fan, and particularly for any red-blooded Scot. And now the dream can come true... virtually.

Unlike any football management game that has gone before, these simulations are not aimed at games fans - but at football fans.

Both games will allow players to control all the important aspects of the management of the clubs, including:

  • Buy and sell accurately simulated players from across Europe.
  • Oversee the training of each and every player.
  • Select your squad for each match.
  • Set match tactics and playing styles.
  • Watch move-by-move match reports, and react by adjusting your tactics or calling in subs.

So now you can take your club to European victory or to complete the 10-in-a-row. But beware that the exacting expectations of the fans and Directors are also simulated with unforgiving accuracy.

The game has been created in close co-operation with both Rangers and Celtic, who have given advice throughout. The clubs have been especially involved with ensuring that the virtual players within the game mirror their real-life counterparts as closely as possible, and their involvement will continue.

Fergus McNeill, MD of the developers’ responsible, Smoking Gun, explained:

"It's been a fantastic experience working on these games, and I believe we've managed to make something which people will be able to get into and enjoy really easily. I grew up just outside Glasgow, so I understand the unique status of these clubs, and know how passionately the supporters feel about them. That's what drove the design process for these games - we wanted to build in the Old Firm rivalry, and all the feelings that make the clubs so special."
