'Winning Eleven 6' Kicks Off In Japan

by Rainier on April 25, 2002 @ 6:11 p.m. PDT

Winning Eleven 6, the hugely successful football game developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo, Inc hits Japanese stores today (Thursday, April 25th). The Tokyo-based team is now busy reworking the game for the European market, where it will be released through Konami of Europe as Pro Evolution Soccer 2 later this year.

Winning Eleven 6 features extensive National and Club squads, with players fully modelled on their real life counterparts. In all fifty-six International sides together with 40 of World’s leading club teams are packed into Winning Eleven 6. A number of hidden bonus teams, including past and present stars of the game, are also included. Konami TYO is currently researching additions for inclusion in the European version of the game.

New gameplay additions include a faster pace, which makes for a more responsive game with quicker turns and instinctive ‘foot-in’ tackles and one-touch passing. Similarly, feints and dummies now play a larger part in the action, while balls can be stepped over mid attack to fool defenders and create space. The recognisable players also benefit from a wider range of skill factors that relate to key attributes such as snap shots and teamwork. Fatigue also now plays a larger part, with slight knocks affecting performance – as will a reliance on the sprint button.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2 will be released for PlayStation 2 later this year. Details concerning the European version will be announced shortly.
