In Splinter Cell, the player controls Sam Fisher, a field operative of a secretive "black-ops" NSA sub-agency called Third Echelon, geared up to infiltrate high-security strongholds, seize critical intelligence, destroy threatening data and neutralize the enemy - all without leaving a trace.
Anticipation is building for the release of Splinter Cell on the Xbox√§ video game system from Microsoft, and on the PC, later this year. The game is winning great praise, and the Game Critics Award is just the latest addition to Splinter Cell’s growing list of honors, which include:
  • Favorite New Game, one of five games named—Fortune Magazine
  • Best Game of E3—teamxbox.com
  • Best Xbox Game of E3—GameSpot.com
  • Best Xbox Game of E3, Runner Up—XenGamer.com

  • Best Xbox Graphics of E3—IGN.com
  • Best Xbox Action Game of E3, Runner Up—IGN.com
  • Best Game Graphics of E3, Runner Up—IGN.com

Because such awards are often given to sequel games in known franchises, it is significant that Splinter Cell, a new game, has received such high honors.

"Splinter Cell was one of the hottest games at E3 and it has the awards to prove it," explained Laurent Detoc, president of Ubi Soft Entertainment, Inc. "It’s the kind of game that makes you proud to be a gamer when you show it to your friends. It’s that cool. Intense stealth action story line, amazing graphics, swift moves and awesome gadgets: realism at its best and you’re the operative."

"Xbox showed Ubi Soft's Splinter Cell proudly in our booth at E3, and the reaction to it was incredible," said J Allard, General Manager, Xbox Platform. "The graphics are amazing and the gameplay is deep and challenging. Splinter Cell is a perfect example of what can happen when a strong development team doesn't settle by writing code to the lowest common denominator for easy porting. This game is turning heads and is going to be a breakout hit this holiday on Xbox."

About Splinter Cell

Splinter Cell is a third person stealth action game featuring cyber-terrorism, shadow agencies, and covert operations, and is set in the realistic, highly detailed geopolitical universe as portrayed by Tom Clancy. Splinter Cell will grant players access to the highest echelons of national security, where shadowy operatives have the freedom to do whatever it takes to safeguard America. In Splinter Cell, the player controls Sam Fisher, a field operative of a secretive "black-ops" NSA sub-agency called Third Echelon. Sam Fisher is geared up to infiltrate high-security strongholds, seize critical intelligence, destroy threatening data and neutralise the enemy - all without leaving a trace. Developed by Ubi Soft's Montreal Studio in Canada, Splinter Cell is a unique experience that will have the player thinly skate on the fine line that separates fact from fiction.

The Xbox™ and PC versions will be released in time for Christmas.
