'Celtic Kings: Rage of War' - Game Story & Screens

by Thomas on Aug. 19, 2002 @ 2:46 p.m. PDT

Ancient Gaul is being torn apart by the struggle between Caesar and Vercingetorix – choose your side!

The adventure takes place during Julius Caesar’s attempt to conquer ancient Gaul. Four different sides are battling to gain control of Gaul: The Gauls, the Romans, the Teutons and the Druids.

The courageous Gauls are legion. Their pride and self-belief often leads them to victory. However, their incessant infighting and bickering also weakens them considerably.

The Roman’s strength lies in the power of their state: they have built a structured and progressive society protected by a highly organized army, which demands constant expansion for the greater glory of Rome. This – and his desire to be its master – is what is pushing Julius Caesar to conquer Gaul.
The Teutons cross the Rhine every year in an attempt to increase their area of influence. On the march, they are a terrifying horde, hunting for fortune and glory on the battlefield. However, unlike the Romans, they have no long-term expansion plans.

The mysterious Druids possess terrifying ancestral powers. A mere handful of them are capable of stopping a powerful army in its tracks and they hold the destiny of nations in their hands.

Adventure or Strategy: twice as much gameplay

Celtic Kings benefits from a straightforward interface and can be played in two different modes: adventure or strategy.

In strategy mode, the gameplay is similar to that of a traditional RTS. Whether playing against other players over the Internet or against the computer, you will need to be a talented tactician and strategist to win. You must create and command large forces, train warriors, acquire awesome powers, conquer villages and fortified areas and ultimately direct military campaigns designed to bend your enemies to your will.

In adventure mode, you will control a group of warriors and must explore the countryside devastated by the struggle between Caesar and Vercingetorix. You will have to be on the watch for potential traitors and decide whether to follow the Druids when they ask for your help. You will also command great armies and fortresses, lead high risk missions behind enemy lines and discover powerful objects which will help you in your quest.
