Codemasters send us a mail this morning with a IGI2: Covert Strike progress report, including information about the beta will be released in August, and will be available for download for Phase 1 (200 testers). Read more below for full article!

Progress Report

We have been working flat out on the multiplayer game. Well, this has been a long time coming, but we are finally reaching the point where we can kick off the Beta Test. The code will be released in August, and will be available for download for Phase 1 (200 testers) of the testing process.

We have a version of code in at the moment which is close to Phase 1 standard, we are currently testing internally. We expect to run phase 1 for a couple of weeks to iron out the big problems, and see how the code handles the Internet, then we will go to phase 2 (all the signed testers) very soon after this.

Regarding the rest of the game, we're really pleased with recent progress. Changes to the sound system are enabling us to cut load times and implement true 3D sound and EAX support; the lighting systems are producing great results; the game systems are working (we feel) well; the code is less buggy than one would expect at this stage, although there are still lots and lots of bugs. We have some issues with animation, but if everything ran smoothly the world would be a boring place. ;)
