by Thomas on Jan. 20, 2003 @ 10:48 a.m. PST

In anticipation of the ninth Annual EA SPORTS Madden Bowl, one of the most exciting events leading up to the Super Bowl, America Online and Electronic Arts today announced that AOL Games and EA SPORTS are presenting the EA SPORTS Madden Bowl Online exclusively to AOL members. By accessing a special password, they will challenge friends, foes and the pros who will participate in the EA SPORTS Madden Bowl tournament on January 23 at 6:30 p.m. PST.

"The EA SPORTS Madden Bowl is the biggest event of the year for Madden NFL players, and has become a big part of the excitement leading up to the Super Bowl itself. We are thrilled to present the event online exclusively to our members," said Matt Bromberg, Vice President and General Manager of AOL Games. "We have put together great package for Madden NFL fans that will make the event even more exciting as they go head-to-head in the Madden Bowl Online."

"This is our ninth annual EA SPORTS Madden Bowl and every year the competition gets more intense," said EA President John Riccitiello. "The pros who play in this tournament are as competitive about their game skills as they are on the field."

On January 18, leading up to the live online exclusive on the EA SPORTS Madden Bowl, AOL Games will launch Inside the Game: EA SPORTS Madden 2003, offering AOL members never-before-seen retrospective of the Madden Bowl, a special Radio@AOL Sports Jamz station, and cheat codes from the Madden NFL game.

Currently the largest interactive sports gaming event, the EA SPORTS Madden Bowl gives fans who play EA SPORTS Madden NFL 2003 on the PlayStation 2 online the chance to play against NFL players and celebrities.

Inside the Game: EA SPORTS Madden 2003 will be available to AOL members starting January 18 through AOL Keyword: Inside the Game. The EA SPORTS Madden Bowl 2003 will be broadcast live on G4 TV.

AOL's Inside the Game is a new feature from AOL Games that offers fans the first chance to access exclusive premiere content from the hottest new game releases. Previously, Inside the Game has featured the exclusive premiere of Busta Rhymes' single "Make it Clap," and an exclusive video from the highly anticipated Sims Online game.

AOL Games provides programming and promotions for online, PC and console games for all AOL members and game fans on the Web, with a focus on creating enhanced high-speed exclusives for AOL Broadband members.
