by Thomas on Jan. 28, 2003 @ 3:14 a.m. PST

Ubi Soft Entertainment announces the immediate availability of Scrabble 2003 Edition for the PC. This follows the successful launch of Junior Scrabble in November 2002 and precedes Scrabble for Sony PlayStation 2 scheduled for Q1 2003.

Scrabble® 2003 Edition for the PC comprises several new features, including the latest word lists from the Official Scrabble Words 4th Edition, Scrabble® Word International. It also features Duplicate game play, Multiplayer modes for up to four players on Local Area Networks (LAN) and Internet. It was developed with the advice and aid of a Scrabble expert and is based on the popular Scrabble board game from Mattel.

Duplicate game play is a variation on traditional Scrabble® where each player has their own board and between seven and twelve tiles. The players then use their tiles and board to make the highest scoring word they can. Once the players have submitted their words, the computer will determine which is the winner and this word is then placed on every player's board, new tiles are picked and the game continues. Other game play options include a Championship mode, Conundrum mode where players attempt to make the longest word they can out of a random group of letters and an anagram mode.

"The Association of British Scrabble Players is pleased to endorse PC Scrabble 2003," says Allan Simmons, chairman of the Association of British Scrabble Players. "With additional Scrabble-related games and challenges included in the package, this version of PC Scrabble comes highly recommended for Scrabble enthusiasts of any level."

"This is the most updated and accurate Scrabble game available," say Emma Fifield, product manager at Ubi Soft Entertainment. "It will satisfy hard-core Scrabble enthusiasts high standards of game play and will allow occasional players a chance to learn and train in a fun and challenging environment."

Players will also be able to create or join games via the Ubi.com network play feature. Players logging onto Ubi.com can see which types of games are available and choose to join one of them. The scores are sent to the Ubi.com ladder system for online ranking. Scrabble 2003 Edition and Junior Scrabble are available now from stockists, both priced £19.99.
