'Chess Commander' Multi-Level Chess Program For Windows

by Thomas on Oct. 17, 2003 @ 1:59 a.m. PDT

Chess Commander is an innovative new Chess interface for the PC running any version of Windows. Powered by OpenGL graphics, the software displays a scalable high-resolution chessboard, and pieces with blended edges. Designed to appeal to chess players of all skill levels, the friendly interface supports multiple boards (produced from digital photographs of real chess sets), natural voices and an orchestral soundtrack.

As well as playing against one of the four computer opponents with varying difficulty levels, you can also play chess online and against email opponents. The email game integrates transparently with any email client and does not require any additional setup.

Chess Commander can also be used to view chess game databases in the standard PGN format. A selection of game databases, containing well over 10,000 games is available on the site. Chess Commander can also create PGN files, allowing you to keep a record of past games.

In addition to those in the installer, registered users get access to a constantly growing selection of computer opponents, boards and voices - as free downloads. Users are also encouraged to submit boards and voices of their own, which are made available on chesscommander.com.

Chess Commander runs under Windows 95/98/Me/2000/XP, costs US$19.95, and may be purchased securely online at http://www.chesscommander.com/. A free Lite version of Chess Commander is available from http://www.chesscommander.com/downloads.htm.
