'Homeworld 2' - Mod Tools Available NOW

"We want to make user modification of Homeworld 2 as easy as possible," said Geoff Thomas, Assistant Producer of Homeworld 2. "The quality of work produced by Relic fans in the modding community has blown us away, and we want to do as much as we can to facilitate their efforts with Homeworld 2. We're really looking forward to seeing what fans can do with these tools."

Homeworld 2, the sequel to one of 1999's highly acclaimed RTS games, returns players to the helm of the most powerful space armada in the universe as they battle to keep their home. The highly-anticipated follow up title includes multiplayer competition for up to five other players, in addition to an engrossing single player saga, and features startling space effects like dust gas clouds, wispy nebulae, and ghostly derelict hulks of space ships rendered with spectacular Hollywood-style special effects.

Homeworld 2 is currently available in stores for a suggested retail price of $49.99 with an ESRB "Teen" rating. For more information, log on to http://www.homeworld2.com.

The RDN Homeworld 2 Toolkit contains all the tools that you will need in order to start creating Homeworld 2 mods.

The installer contains the following items:

  • FX Tools Editor
    This tool allows for the creation of custom special effects that can be used for things like weapons, resourcing, and other animations.
  • FX Tools Manual
    This document describes the functions/options that are available to the user in the FX Tools.
  • Tuning Spreadsheets
    These spreadsheets allow for the modification of ship, missile, resource, nebula, subsystem, and weapon variables (Excel required).
  • Scripts
    The scripts you will need to make game mods.
  • Source Models and Textures
    Example ships, subsystems, resources, and nebulas in original formats (Requires Maya 3.0 and Photoshop 5.5 or higher).
  • Relic Plug-Ins for Maya 3.0
    The tools used by Relic to create objects and levels. (Requires Maya 3.0 or higher).
  • Relic Plug-Ins for Photoshop
    The tools and actions used by Relic in the creation of game textures (Requires Photoshop 5.5 or higher).
  • Sample Game Mod – Resource Race
    A sample game mod in .big file format.
  • Documentation
    All of the documents you will need to use these assets and make game mods. These docs are provided in both PDF and MS Word formats.
  • IMPORTANT NOTE!
    The Homeworld 2 Toolkit REQUIRES a retail version of Homeworld 2.
