III. KNOWN HARDWARE COMPATIBILITY ISSUES
---------------------------------------

Please update to the newest drivers available for your hardware. Uru uses the latest technology to give you the best game experience possible. We have outlined some compatibility issues below. If you still encounter problems, please visit our website support at http://support.ubi.com, or contact the manufacturer.

Video
-------

Uru(tm): Ages Beyond Myst(r) (Demo version) requires video drivers that are DirectX 9.0 (or higher) compliant.

The game's default settings are based on the hardware that was detected. Raising or lowering the settings may create unexpected results.

Onboard Geforce 2 users may need to update their drivers to version 6.14.10.4523 from NVIDIA if you are experiencing problems in game.

Matrox Parhelia users who encounter graphic issues should turn off Anti-Aliasing in the graphics setting in the launch menu.

Sound
--------

Uru(tm): Ages Beyond Myst(r) (Demo version) requires Audio drivers that are DirectX 9.0 (or higher) compliant.

The game's default settings are based on the hardware that was detected. Raising or lowering the settings may create unexpected results.

Win2k users should make sure that their system audio hardware acceleration slider is set to Full or 100% in order to get EAX effects to show up as available in URU Setup, i.e. to get EAX to work at all. This is found in Control PanelSounds and Audio Devices Properties. Click on the Audio tab and select Advanced. Then select the Performance tab and move the Hardware Acceleration slider all the way to the right.

Creative Audigy 2 Issues:

Issue: Crackling and squealing on Windows ME and 98.
Fix: Turn down audio hardware acceleration via Sound control panel, or
completely off via Uru Setup. Also, try moving the card to a PCI slot that is
not adjacent to the video card.

Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Issues:

Issue: Some sounds are inaudible.
More Info: http://www.turtlebeach.com/site/kb_ftp/5854044.asp
Fix: Turn down, or off, audio hardware acceleration.

Issues with DirectX games - Turtle Beach recommends that the user makes sure that they have the latest drivers. If the user does have the latest drivers and is still experiencing problems then they should lower the audio hardware acceleration in the audio control panel through the desktop.

This is also an issue on Win2K. Using the 4161 drivers with audio hardware acceleration turned all the way up makes some sounds inaudible. By turning the audio hardware acceleration down in the audio control panel, or turning hardware acceleration off in client setup, sounds become audible again. Getting the latest Microsoft non-certified drivers 4193 could also solve this problem.

SoundBlaster Live! Issues:

Sounds may not play correctly if you are using the default drivers for the Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live Cards. Please upgrade your drivers as soon as possible.

Dell SoundBlaster Live 5.1 issues:

Issue: Some sounds cutout briefly and or popping from some sounds that play. This card causes some streaming sounds to cutout briefly. This seems to happen across all operating systems. While Creative manufactures this card, they do not support it. If problems occur, Dell recommends that the user reinstall the audio card drivers. If that does not work, turning audio hardware acceleration down or off should fix this problem.
More Info: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_audio&message.id=39953
Fix: Turn down, or off, audio hardware acceleration.

Aureal Vortex 2 users on Windows XP who experience choppy sounds and/or other
sound problems should use the drivers supplied by the O/S. Drivers for all
Vortex-based audio products are included with the Windows XP operating system -
both Home and Professional versions. It is recommended that you use these
drivers. However, it is not recommended that you use this card with Win2K or
XP, since Aureal went out of business before releasing official drivers for
Win2K or XP. The built-in drivers seem to be buggy.

For users playing with EAX enabled who occasionally notice what sounds like
microphone feedback and/or oscillating low-frequency hum, try turning down your
'Number of Sounds' slider. Otherwise, you may have to turn off EAX altogether,
via URU Setup.
