David Heath, Director of Operations for Matrix Games, said “The original Steel Panthers was a tactical wargaming classic, unsurpassed in its day. With the help of some truly devoted and outstanding wargamers, we’ve been able taken that engine and continue to update it with new features and full compatibility with today’s computers. It is now a modern classic and as with all of our past Steel Panthers: World At War updates, it’s available as a free download. We at Matrix Games would like to wish wargamers everywhere Happy Holidays and hope that they enjoy this small present from all of us.”
Steel Panthers: World At War 8.0 includes months of work on new detailed orders of battle, updated scenarios and campaigns, an improved AI opponent, stability improvements and a streamlined user-friendly installation process.
Steel Panthers: World At War is a tactical level, World War II era, historical wargame. This is a very highly refined version of Steel Panthers III, placed in the Steel Panthers I game scale. We used Steel Panthers III since it was the most stable version of the game engine yet created. The original game series was designed by Gary Grigsby, Keith Brors and Joel Billings. Steel Panthers: World At War is a hex based, top down view, alternating turn ("I go, you go" or IGOUGO) game design.
Unlike its predecessors, Steel Panthers: World At War is a true Windows game and does not require DOS. It will run on Windows 98 / ME / 2000 / XP as well as OS/2 and Linux.
Steel Panthers: World At War was designed in English but, it also comes in German, French, Italian, Finnish, Polish and Spanish language versions, making it truly a world-wide game. Any language version can even play against any other language version, without problems!
