'Time of Defiance' - Client Update Available Now

by Rainier on Feb. 27, 2003 @ 10:15 a.m. PST

Time of Defiance is a massively multiplayer real time strategy game, with astonishing graphics, based upon many thousands of small floating islands on the remains of the planet of Nespanona. The Cog Tribes are locked into a battle of supremacy with each other. The player takes on the role of one of the Cog tribes and plays against hundreds or thousands of other players to gain control of the Northern Continent. Players expand their empires through exploration, negotiation, war or peace - using the strategies and tactics of their choice. Nicely Crafted Entertainment have now released version 4.410B of Time of Defiance. Read more for download links & detailed fix list ...

New features:

  • New object: Cog Fighter Tower. This is a land based mothership for the Cog. It can launch fighters to targets up to 2km away and can specify specific targets to attack.
  • New object: Quantum receiver. This is a silo that can receive resources. The Quantum Communicator has been updated so that you can specify which quantum receiver is going to receive the resources. The receiver and sending quantum communicator can be up to 250km apart. Bleed rate is the same as water-to-eighth-house. Your "quantum network" is shown on empire view.
  • New object: Cog Battle Platform. This is the configurable battle platform. You can build components on it and wire them up to make specific machines. It can be purchased from the Eighth House.
  • Score Deltas Window: You can now view your relative achievements in your current session, since last session or since a point that you choose. The window can be opened with "/deltas" or by opening the scores panel and selecting "Score Deltas".

Enhancements:

  • Added new marker colours - black, pink and brown.
  • Modified the "Show idle miners" filter on empire view to break it down into four - idle moss miners, mining transports, Shadoo refineries and Cog Resource Mines.
  • When changing a gate code, the "fixed part" (the XXXXX:Y- in front of gate codes) is now shown to reduce confusion between what can be set and what cannot.
  • In detail view, moving mouse pointer over a chat message referring to an object now highlights the object in question.
  • Improved message highlighting from the server so that more critical messages can be seen on the display.
  • In empire view, dragging with the left mouse button now moves the screen around in the way that the arrow keys do. Navigation is now possible entirely on the mouse.
  • Made substantial improvements to the help text that is provided when a connection to the server fails for any reason.
  • Players that are busy are now shown as (busy) in the who-is-online list.
  • Move-to-island and Head-in-direction target selector now has several levels of zoom - handy for destroyers moving in closer ranges as it increases your resolution.
  • Added "Purchase with Moss" and "Purchase with Water" to the Eighth House shop windows so you can avoid spending water (as it was by default previously).
  • Added new filters for showing objects with more than 50 tons of a specific resource.

Bug fixes:

  • CTRL-H/D/E to go to Home island, detail view and empire view were not functioning if you had an edit box (such as typing a chat message) active. Fixed.
  • Removed Ambassador's chat from the Unstable Gate menu.
  • ALT-TABing out of ToD and returning when on the advanced status screen/eighth house sometimes affected the ordering of the display. Fixed.
  • Quad speed games did not visually show moss mining on Shadoo refineries, even though they were mining.
