'My Street' For PS2 Ships

by Thomas on March 12, 2003 @ 5:19 a.m. PST

Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. announced today the release of My Street developed exclusively for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system. Set in a vibrant, virtual neighborhood, My Street, developed by Idol Minds, creators of the critically acclaimed Cool Boarders franchise and produced by Sony Computer Entertainment America, is an exciting party game for single and multi-player competition. Featuring a collection of arcade-style mini-games, My Street is the ultimate source of challenging online and offline competition, offering endless hours of action for children, teens and adults.

Players can either use pre-determined characters or create their own game "persona," selecting everything from wild hairstyles to outrageous outfits, and then hit the street where a group of energetic children are eagerly awaiting challengers for seven unique mini-game contests. In both on -- and offline gameplay, players of all ages can take on up to three of their friends in a mix of some old schoolyard favorites and fresh new mini-games including Dodgeball, Volleyball, RC Racing, Marbles, Chemistry, Lawn Mowers and Chicken Herding. Whether playing friends in their living room or text-chatting and competing online through a broadband or dial-up connection via the Network Adaptor (Ethernet/modem)(for PlayStation®2), members of the whole family can compete to see who really rules the virtual neighborhood and be crowned king of the playground.

"My Street is an exciting title that is sure to deliver hours of fun for any PlayStation 2 fan. Kids can test their skills and be best on the block with games like RC Racing, Chemistry and Chicken Herding. And for the older gamers, the nostalgia of games like Dodgeball, Volleyball and Marbles are sure to bring out the kid in all of us," said Ami Blaire, director, product marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "And when you play My Street online, it will take the competition to a whole new level."

Gamers seeking competition outside of their living room can find it by playing online, using their custom character to intimidate challengers on a national level. Players will have the unique opportunity to be the captain of their own online game tournament or enter another player's turf to see if they can beat the street. After hopping into a game via the lobby, players can join a text chat and offer shouts of encouragement to teammates or challenging remarks to their opponents.

My Street offers three gameplay modes including Story Mode, Play Mode, and Online. In both the online and Play mode, gamers can choose from single games or create customized tournaments with any of the unique games they choose. Through Story Mode, gamers can compete in each competition in succession to be crowned ruler of the neighborhood. Family members of all ages also can enjoy battling it out in the neighborhood and should be prepared for some stiff competition from the younger gamers in the family, as My Street includes a handicapping system within the game to even the playing field between more experienced and novice gamers.
