'Tropico 2: Pirate Cove' Sailing The Seven Seas Into Stores

by Thomas on April 23, 2003 @ 5:52 a.m. PDT

After months in development on a far and distant tropical isle Tropico 2: Pirate Cove is making its sailing the seven seas into stores. An addictive real time strategy, empire building game for the PC this swashbuckling adventure is a treasure that can be discovered in stores on 25th April 2003.

Developed by Frog City in association with Pop Top Software, Tropico 2: Pirate Cove is a must have game for all budding buccaneers. With over 16 historical pirate captains to choose from and over 30 edicts to pass including 'walk the plank' and 'press ganging', Tropico 2: Pirate Cove will have you reaching for your eye patch and stuffed parrot in no time!

Assuming the role of an all-powerful Pirate King, players must manage a seventeenth century band of buccaneers. To attract the most frightening of history's sea-faring bad boys, Pirate Kings must keep their charges brave and well supplied between voyages. The island's festivities must stay at a feverish pitch in order to keep the King and his pirates satisfied with drinking, wenching, gambling, feasting, and the best in pirate accommodations.

Success in Tropico 2: Pirate Cove depends on careful management of the pirate population. As dead men earn no plunder, the King must keep his pirates well equipped for potentially lethal missions. Sea dogs require muskets, cutlasses, cannons and the skills to use them when they venture forth to terrorise the Spanish Main. While pirates equipped with a parrot on their shoulders and a scary black hat are more likely to strike fear into their victims hearts.

Building on the great gameplay base of the original title, players of Tropico 2 will now need to quash merchants on the high seas and bring the victims back to the island as captive workers as well as producing materials to earn extra gold for your hoard. In addition, the pirate characters show a great deal of individual personality, so that the player becomes truly vested in the characters well being. The island is also zoned so that richer pirates may sequester themselves in their own booty-filled mansions, which automatically upgrade as their standards of living improve.

Tropico 2: Pirate Cove stars Blackbeard and other Kings of the sea based loosely on historical figures, organized in a campaign that takes the pirates through a whole century of raiding action. Along with dozens of their fictional counterparts, these legendary fellows are readying their old sea legs for release.
