Firaxis To Use NDL's Gamebryo In 'Pirates'

NDL announced today that its Gamebryo 3D graphics engine and toolkit will be used by Firaxis Games in their remake of the classic hit title Sid Meier's Pirates! Sid Meier's Pirates! is among the most popular and loved titles in gaming history. Originally released in 1987, Pirates! received unprecedented critical acclaim for crossing multiple game genres to offer unique, unrivaled gameplay options. Pirates! set the industry standard for innovative game design with its unique blend of open-ended role-playing, real-time adventures and thrilling action sequences.

"We are excited to be a part of Sid Meier's highly anticipated next venture with Pirates!," said John Austin, president of NDL. "Firaxis has positioned itself as one of the premier developers in this industry and we're looking forward to what they deliver to gamers this time."

With the Gamebryo 3D graphics engine, Firaxis will deliver updated gameplay, stunning new features, spectacular 3D graphics, so players can fully experience the intrigue, adventure and danger of life as a pirate on the Spanish Main. The game will also carry on with the great design simplicity tradition of the award-winning original while adding more challenging and exciting battle options, and deeper and more varied role-playing experience, including multiple paths to a wealthy, happy retirement.
