As of today, new and current residents will have the opportunity to purchase memberships in increments ranging from monthly to yearly to lifetime. The pricing is as follows:
- Monthly Membership: $14.95 per month
- Quarterly Membership: $39.95 per 3 months (Save 10%)
- Annual Membership: $134.95 per 12 months (Save 25%)
- Lifetime Membership: $225 Lifetime (limited Lifetime Memberships available)
New applicants can become official Second Life residents by registering for an account at www.secondlife.com. Once registered, a simple 10MB download of the Second Life viewer is all they need to get started and begin a free 5-day trial membership.
The minimum requirements are:
- Computer: 800MHZ or higher, 256 RAM or more
- Operating System: Windows 2000, NT or XP
- Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 2 (32MB RAM) or higher, or ATI Radeon 8500 (32MB RAM) or higher
- Internet Connection: Broadband Internet connection (DSL, cable modem, or LAN)
Second Life is initially available for Windows-based PCs, with Mac and Linux versions following by the end of 2003.
