Get your Face Featured In Your Own VideoGame

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has signed an agreement with Digimask Ltd, the company behind the games technology that enables you to create real-life 3-D heads, that will literally change the face of video gaming forever. This summer use your Eye-Toy camera to stick yer ugly mug onto PS2 cameras. Read more for details ..

For the first time ever, it will be possible for gamers to incorporate their very own, fully animatable 3-D head into compatible PlayStation®2 games by taking just two photos of their face. Using Sony's EyeToy camera to capture the images, together with Digimask's revolutionary 'Personal Head Creation' technology, the two images are converted into a fully-'muscled' 3-D model of that person's head. The model head can then be saved onto the Memory Card for use in games that support the Digimask technology.

Exclusive to the PlayStation 2 platform, SCEE already has several titles in development that will take advantage of this technology, with the first one expected to be launched in July 2004. Players could become the face of the game's hero, or even have all their friends as a squad in multiplayer games; they could see themselves driving a round of the World Rally Championship or starring in their favourite football team. The possibilities are endless.

Jamie MacDonald, Development Director at SCEE's London Studios, said: "EyeToy has proved phenomenally successful, with over 2.4 million units sold to date, and it is central to our drive to enable everyone – no matter what their age or gender – to have fun with their PlayStation 2. The Digimask technology will allow our development teams to explore entirely new avenues of gaming possibility, bringing a whole new dimension to gaming."

Gary Bracey, Founding CEO of Digimask said: "We are delighted that Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has chosen us as their partner to help bring the ultimate personalisation into gaming. There will soon be over 2 million PlayStation 2 users with the capability of using the Digimask technology, and we anticipate that demand for compatible games will be very high. We are now talking to third-party developers/publishers about licensing this for integration into their games. The marriage of EyeToy and Digimask is a perfect combination."
