'GameRiot' Hits The Road

by Rainier on March 4, 2004 @ 4:39 p.m. PST

Games Media Properties today announced that its GameRiot expo will embark on its second national tour entertaining 75,000 gamers in 30 cities, from March through May, with the hottest releases from Microsoft Game Studio, Electronic Arts, Activision, Ubisoft, and other leading publishers. Xbox has joined as GameRiot’s lead sponsor and the exclusive console platform of GameRiot, and NVIDIA Corporation will present the NVIDIA PC Gaming Zone.

GameRiot is the world’s largest traveling video games festival and competition, offering casual to hardcore gamers the chance to be the first to play and compete on new and unreleased titles. The Spring Tour represents the biggest and the longest gaming event ever to hit the live entertainment circuit.

Combining intense competitions and a dance party atmosphere, GameRiot brings the best of video games to clubs such as the House of Blues in Chicago, Myrtle Beach and New Orleans, La Zona Rosa in Austin, and the 9:30 Club in Washington D.C. The event will also provide a great popular attraction at the Avalon in Los Angeles during the week of E3, the industry trade show. A full list of tour dates and ticket information can be found at www.gameriot.com.

“For today’s avid gamer, there is nothing in America quite like GameRiot,” says Matthew Ringel, Executive Producer of GameRiot. “The breadth of game titles and the quality of gaming technology we offer all under one roof is without equal. Gamers want to be the first to play, they want to try everything, and they want to leave an event with a truckload of goodies. We deliver this, and we do it right in a gamer’s hometown.”

GameRiot, powered by Xbox, is a high-tech arena where fans come to play, watch and compete in the hottest video games on state-of-the art gaming stations with the most powerful technologies. Ninja Gaiden, Battlefield Vietnam, Splinter Cell: Pandora’s Tomorrow, and Unreal Tournament 2004 are just a few of the titles that will appear at GameRiot. The NVIDIA PC Gaming Zone will feature systems powered by NVIDIA’s GeForce FX graphics processors and AMD’s Athlon 64 FX, delivering the most dynamic gaming experience possible on a PC today. Hot DJs set the tone and entertain gamers, and the GameRiot Girls keep the energy kicking.

GameRiot was launched in the Summer of 2003 when it toured the country with Lollapalooza. That tour first united GameRiot with Microsoft Xbox. GameRiot has now appeared in over 30 cities with 90,000 attendees to date.

“We had a terrific experience with GameRiot at Lollapalooza last summer, and are looking forward to participating in the exciting tour they have put together for this year,” said Bill Nielsen, Director of Marketing for Xbox. “GameRiot has done a great job creating live entertainment events using games and music. Xbox is focused on emphasizing the social aspects of gaming, and GameRiot has developed a wonderful experience for gamers.

To kick off the GameRiot spring tour, broadband media partner GameSpot.com is helping to launch a national sweepstakes, with the winner being flown to Los Angeles to party at GameRiot at the Avalon and attend E3.
