'Oxygen' Rolls Out New PS2 Budget Titles

by Judy on July 15, 2004 @ 6:59 a.m. PDT

Oxygen Interactive today announced the launch of its range of budget PlayStation2 games. A total of eight titles are already in development, including a retro-arcade title, children's games, and Poker. The first set of releases will cover the breadth of the racing genre, with the first three due in the next two months: Formula Challenge (F1-style racing), GT Racers (supercar racing around Europe's leading cities), and Rig Racer (track-based truck racing). With plans to bring fifteen titles to retail across Europe by March 2005, Oxygen's move will significantly increase competition in the PS2 budget sector but the publisher is confident that there is still room for another major player in this area.

"Oxygen has a clear mission: to give retail a complete range of impulse-purchase titles for the new breed of casual gamers," explained CEO Jim Scott. "Our growing mid-price range is being very well received, and the addition of these budget-price products allows us to offer complementary products but at an even lower price."

The titles will be promoted to trade buyers under the Liquid name, and published by Oxygen under its own name on PS2. As the range expands onto PC, the Liquid label will become a consumer brand for these titles.
