About Judy

As WP's managing editor, I edit review and preview articles, attempt to keep up with the frantic pace of Rainier's news posts, and keep our reviewers on deadline, which is akin to herding cats. When I have a moment to myself and don't have my nose in a book, I like to play action/RPG, adventure and platforming games.

'Stalingrad' - Screens

by Judy on Jan. 4, 2005 @ 12:53 a.m. PST

Unlike many other WWII RTS games Stalingrad renders every event taking into account all historical peculiarities and demonstrates a high level of accuracy. Moreover the missions in every single battle scenario are the same as they were in reality.

"The battle for Stalingrad is one of the key events of World War II", says Petr Prohorenko, game designer at DTF Games. "It was a trying ordeal for the Red Army, but it selflessly fought against the enemy and stood that test. This battle became a symbol of firmness and courage. Our troops went through bitterness of losses and retreat. But after all it became one of the most successful operations of the Red Army. Stalingrad has put an end to the ambitious plans of the Third Reich. We plan to recreate the events as thoroughly as possible and give players an opportunity to participate in this great battle".

Stalingrad features:

  • 36 missions, 2 campaigns (playing on the side of Wehrmacht or the Red Army), 7 hidden missions, revealing secret and unknown facts from the history of the battle for Stalingrad.
  • Historical accuracy which makes the game an interactive encyclopedia of the battle for Stalingrad.
  • Mission maps' landscape is created on basis of tactical maps and air photography of that period.
  • More than 150 units made on basis of real prototypes which took part in the battle of Stalingrad. Several tens of historic buildings, created according to archival photographs.
