Former SCEA Members Form Next Gen 'Machine' Developer

In mid April, 2005, a group of game development professionals from Sony Computer Entertainment America formed a new independent game development company, MACHINE Union. Located south of downtown San Diego, Machine, will focus their efforts towards next generation console game development.

"MACHINE has set its sights on creating great games in a highly functioning, enjoyable studio environment," says Geoff Houston, co-founder and General Manager. "Our vision is to bring gameplay and game-control back to the front."

The founders and employees of MACHINE have been previously credited on more than 20 Xbox, GameCube, PlayStation2 and PlayStation titles. They collectively represent more than 30 years of professional game development experience.

"By June we had completed our main frameworks and art development pipelines which allowed pre-production on MACHINE's first game title to start in July," says Houston. "The game project we chose to develop presents new gameplay mechanics we hope the player finds extremely captivating. Our engine takes advantage of next generation hardware capabilities and is designed to be easily retargeted to multiple consoles."

While MACHINE representatives are unable to discuss details of the company's debut game, publishers will be able to attend the unveiling of the game project at Game-Connection 2005 in Lyon, France.
