'Dark Age of Camelot: Darkness Rising' Goes Gold

by Rainier on Oct. 3, 2005 @ 1:58 p.m. PDT

In Darkness Rising, an evil uprising threatens the land and the mightiest heroes in the Realms are called into service. For the first time in Dark Age of Camelot, players will be able to earn the right to be called a Champion of the Realm. Players become Champions by exploring new zones and revisiting altered lands while investigating the mysterious uprising to discover its sinister underpinnings. By performing this service for their Realm, players achieve new levels of advancement and gain the ability to wield class-specific Champion Weapons. Darkness Rising also introduces majestic player-controlled horses and other more fantastic steeds which can be ridden into conflict in the war between the Realms.

Dark Age of Camelot subscribers can now pre-order Darkness Rising for $19.99 through a new in-game menu option. Anyone ordering before October 10th will receive an exclusive suit of armor for their new in-game mount.

"The launch of Darkness Rising showcases our ongoing commitment to our flagship title with thrilling, new content that evolves the world of Dark Age of Camelot beyond its current boundaries," said Jeff Hickman, Executive Producer for Dark Age of Camelot. "With our new digital distribution system, this new content will be immediately available to players upon release."

Darkness Rising will be included, along with the original game and all expansions released to date, in the new Dark Age of Camelot: Epic Edition to be available at retail on October 11th for $39.99.

Darkness Rising requires the original Dark Age of Camelot, and Catacombs expansion pack to play. Former players returning to the game can re-activate their account, regain their original characters and take advantage of the online availability of the expansion.

For those who have yet to discover what has kept people playing Dark Age of Camelot for four years, a 14-day free trial version, which includes the original game as well as the Shrouded Isles, Foundations, and New Frontiers expansions, is available for download.
