Tecmo proudly announced today new details and information surrounding its newest strategy based action game, Tokobot, being developed for the PSP. Tokobot’s unique “team combo” concept, highly addictive gameplay, fun puzzles, and quirky, cool premise, will have gamers’ falling in love with Tokobot when it bolts onto store shelves nationwide this holiday season.

Tokobot may look like a game geared up for younger audiences but don’t let the cuteness fool you, the appeal of Tokobot’s game play is in its innovative “team combo” concept where players will have to use strategy and skill in order to become master Tokobot players. For gamers who love strategy based action games, Tokobot is a must have title to add to their collection

“We love Tokobot and we can’t wait to show the world everything our little Tokobots have to offer,” Andrea Frechette, Tecmo’s Marketing Manager, said. “The cartoonish Japanese influenced art direction, original storyline, super cool game play and strategy-based ‘team combo’ concept will have gamers hooked on Tokobot.”

The Tokobot story begins in a ruins research lab called, “Canewood’s Lab” run by the kingdom’s lord, “Mr. Canewood” whose primary work consists of analyzing ancient civilizations through excavation trips to prehistoric ruins. The player takes on the role of “Bolt”, Canewood’s newest agent, whose positive attitude and youthful energy makes him a perfect field agent to manage tight jams during excavation trips. During his first research mission, Bolt discovers extremely rare little robots called, “Tokobots” that immediately begin to follow him along his path.

Bolt quickly comes to find out that the Tokobot’s serve an important role in his adventures as they help him to overcome obstacles, avoid traps, solve puzzles and fight enemies by forming joint actions called, “team combos” where Bolt and the Tokobots link up in different formations in order to defeat any hurdle that gets in their way. By using a skilled combination of correct formations and jointing, the player will be able to perform a plethora of different team combos in order to be successful through each mission. These team combos include throws, spins, stamps, tosses, push/pull/lifts, and “ultimate team combos”, the most advanced type of team combos. To activate these super special combos, the player must first unlock their Tokobot’s abilities and second, possess all the parts that make up the combo (these are found along the way). Once the player has attained all the abilities and parts that he needs, Bolt and the Tokobots will morph into the ultimate team combo, a bigger more powerful robot that takes on the shapes of large machines such as a crane or tank, in order to fight big bad bosses and solve intricate puzzles that get in the way of their mission.

Along with fighting enemies and bosses, ultimate team combos are also the key to solving puzzles and moving along in the game. From turning into an enormous crane that moves blocks in order to solve a zany block puzzle to a huge catapult that’s used to launch Tokobots into mid-air in order to reach high spots, the ultimate team combos are the player’s ultimate tool to succeeding in the game. These super combos even help the player move from Part A to Part B as Bolt and the Tokobots combine to form a fast moving train in order to get across a large canyon. Players won’t be able to get enough of Tokobot, using their newly mastered team combo skills in order to come up with tons of different ways to combine Bolt and the Tokobots for maximum game play fun.

After clearing the whole game, “Challenge Mode” will be unlocked where players will be able to show off their Tokobot prowess in this time attack mode. Other secret unlockables will become available once this mode has been cleared. The Challenge Mode and hidden unlockables will keep the player challenged and having fun for hours after they have completed the game giving Tokobot instant replay value.

The first PSP system game to be developed by Tecmo promises to bring hours of fun portable game play while capturing your imagination as players take on the role of Bolt, a quick thinking agent who has discovered some small and friendly robots called “Tokobots”. With the help of the loyal Tokobots, Bolt will reveal mysteries and save the world from a horrible plot, as the Tokobots faithfully follow him on his adventures.

Tokobot’s unique concept, fun style, and addictive strategy-based “team combo” game play will have gamers playing the portable game for hours on end to try to come up with new ways to combine the Tokobots in order to complete each action-packed level. Beginning with six Tokobots, the player will collect more of the loyal and lovable Tokobots as they move through the game and earn points. As the game continues and the challenges increase, the player must strategically utilize Bolt and the Tokobots in new and innovative combinations in order to create the “ultimate team combo” which will morph the little Tokobots into one large robot. Only then will the player be able to overcome the largest obstacles and beat the biggest bosses in the game.

Once the player has successfully completed the game, the Tokobot madness continues as they will be able to unlock “Challenge Mode” where players will be able to show off their Tokobot skills in this time attack mode.

Rated E for everyone with mild cartoon violence by the ESRB, Tokobot will hit stores nationwide this Holiday Season.
