Adult Themed MMO 'Spend the Night' Announced

by Rainier on Sept. 19, 2005 @ 10:52 a.m. PDT

Glennis McClellan, who was responsible for the art direction and design of girl-targeted titles for Disney's Buena Vista Games division, has left the company to join start-up publisher Republik Games, Inc. as head of production. The new company is at work on its first title: a female-centric, sexually-themed multiplayer dating game and community called Spend the Night.

When asked about her switch from children's games to a mature-themed property, McClellan said: "I've spent the past year working on games for girls, like `Cinderella,' `Lizzie McGuire' and `That's So Raven.' I am excited by the opportunity to create smart, fun products for women. There's a myth that women aren't interested in erotic content, which is totally untrue. Women are just as interested in sex as men are but there is little in the way of online content for this vast market. We plan to get women involved, put in features they care about, and make our game both entertaining and accessible."

McClellan has over ten years of production management and design experience. Prior to Disney, McClellan served as Senior Producer for New York-based Skillgames, where she was responsible for heading up online game production and design. She also served as Executive Producer and Art Director for EAI Interactive, where she worked on titles for Atari, Disney and Warner Bros., and previous to that, managed IPO presentation development for Goldman Sachs.

On McClellan's appointment, Republik Games' CEO Robert Coshland stated: "Glennis and I have been working together on and off since 1998 -- we are an incredibly synergistic team. She is an exceptional artist with amazing production, design and business skills, a rare combination." He added: "She also brings a woman's perspective to the design of `Spend the Night,' which will be critical for reaching the female members of our target audience."

"I am looking forward to joining Republik Games to work on this forward-thinking product," said McClellan. "Women are much more interested in community, relationships and erotic content than the violence that is so pervasive in today's video games -- after all, everyone has sex -- but thankfully, not everyone goes on a killing spree."
