Ubisoft Europe Signs 'Rugby Challenge 2006' (PS2/Xbox/PC)

by Rainier on Sept. 23, 2005 @ 12:18 p.m. PDT

For the first time in many years the Northern Hemisphere Rugby nations are now on equal billing with their Southern Hemisphere counterparts and the competition for the top position has never been so close with even the minnows of the International scene coming up with shock results. Rugby Union has never been so competitive or so popular, even at club level.

Earlier this year Ubisoft announced its intention to enter the sports arena, and one of its first titles – And 1® Streetball – will be released during Q4 of its fiscal year. Rugby Challenge 2006 is an example of its commitment to the sports genre, and will be the first title published by Ubisoft in this segment to hit shelves.

"Rugby Challenge 2006 brings sports gamers and rugby fans the most complete and intuitive Rugby simulation" said John Parkes EMEA marketing director at Ubisoft. "Not only will Rugby Challenge 2006 offer plenty of living-room fun with realistic graphics and animations but also a wide choice of real teams and stadiums along with the new 2006 Rugby content."

Key features:

  • A new reference in rugby simulation: The game provides up-to-date 2006 content (names, teams, tournament, and rules) and the fluid and quick play phases of a real rugby game. 5 official stadiums have been reproduced and more than 450 teams & 2000 players in total.
  • Prestigious official licenses: National teams, the "Six Nations tournament", the official leagues (Top 14 in France, Premiership in England, Celtic league in Scotland, Ireland and Wales).
  • Editor mode to customize players, teams and tournaments: Create your own leagues and cups.
  • Complete training and tutorial modes: Learn and understand the rules of Rugby (easy, normal, and difficult). Become the stadium god!
  • A realistic detailed and fun career mode: Player transfers, player recruitment, hiring coaches, weekly training sessions, financial management, injury management, and more.
  • Live commentaries by official commentators: John Inverdale from BBC & Dewi Morris from Sky Sports for England. Jean Abeilhou & JérTMme Cazalbou from France 2 for France.
  • Up to 4 players on the same platform
