'Combat Tour' Announced

by Rainier on Jan. 12, 2006 @ 1:34 p.m. PST

The air battles of World War 2 will be raging across the Internet with Combat Tour, a new expansion to Aces High II from developer HiTech Creations. Combat Tour breaks new ground in online gaming by combining intense air combat simulation and military role-playing in a completely mission-based team format.

Virtual pilots from over 30 countries around the world will log on to Combat Tour to experience a portrayal of air combat like never before. Players guide their character through the perilous journey of a WW2 combat pilot taking part in the greatest air battles from either the Axis or Allied side. New pilots must first complete basic flight instruction before being posted to their unit. Each player can then choose to go on regularly scheduled missions containing a variety of different objectives with and against other players and AI units.

Combat Tour's mission based format sets it apart from other online games by uniting players to achieve a common objective. In many other multiplayer games, player interaction is sparse resulting in an ally simply being someone that you avoid shooting. Because it takes group success to achieve individual success, players are dependent on teamwork and cooperation making this a true multiplayer experience.

As the player contributes to his side's success, he also contributes to his own success. His character will earn promotions and additional benefits, such as improved pilot physiology and better maintenance crews. The player will be able to customize his character's development to best fit his own playing style.

"One of our goals is to have players feel what it was like to be part of a thousand plane raid," states Dale Addink, CEO of HiTech Creations. "Players will get an adrenaline rush jumping into one of these epic battles while trying to preserve their life and the lives of their wingmen. With career development in a historical setting, there's an element of risk that along with the huge scale of the battles creates an intense experience that you won't find in any other flight-sim."

Combat Tour features a very different style of game play from "Arena" play. Arena play is a very loose free-form style of game play that focuses on the mechanics of air combat. In CT, this is changed so that the gaming experience goes beyond the dogfight and puts you in the role of a WWII combatant trying to survive and perform the mission at hand. Working together as a team, you’ll find success in the mission and gain promotions, medals, and even improved abilities and aircraft.

CT will begin as a campaign that focuses on the long range bombing campaign of the U.S. 8th Air Force vs. the Luftwaffe. As CT development advances, more campaigns will be added covering a wide variety of theaters and time frames.

Features

  • Historical WWII battles.
  • Mission based game play.
  • Additional A.I. units create battles of a massive scale.
  • Character development and career advancement.
  • Support for multiple characters per account.

CT will be available to all Aces High subscribers at no extra charge and is offered in addition to the current arenas and events.
