'World of Warcraft' Summer Movie Contest Finalists Announced

by Rainier on Oct. 9, 2006 @ 10:08 a.m. PDT

Rich in legend and filled with adventure, the World of Warcraft awaits! For the first time, players experience the lands of Azeroth from a new, in-depth perspective. As heroes, they explore familiar battlefields, discover new lands and take on epic quests and challenges.

“We are absolutely astounded by the quality of the submissions that we have received this year,” said Mike Cassidy, CEO of Xfire. “It has been extremely difficult for us to narrow it down to just 20 finalists in four categories, and I expect it will be just as hard for our members to select their favorites.”

For the “World of Warcraft Summer Movie Contest,” Xfire tapped into its 5 million-user base and the millions of World of Warcraft“ players, welcoming entrants from Canada, Europe and the United States to create movies using Blizzard’s wildly popular massively multiplayer online game, World of Warcraft“. Five outstanding contest finalists were selected from each of the following four categories: Short Film, Comedy, Music Video/Dance and Drama/Action. Gamers have until Monday, October 23 to select and vote for their favorites. Contest winners will be announced on Thursday, October 26.
