Without a doubt, pitching is the most important element in a baseball game -- there are few sports that demonstrate the same amount of drama contained in a 3-2 count. Success in these payoff situations is what separates a good pitcher from a “great” one, as the “great” ones get better and better in pressure situations. It also helps when a teammate catcher can help him spot his pitches and guide a pitcher to the best strikeout pitch. The complete pitching experience is fully realized in Major League Baseball® 2K6 through the exciting and innovative Payoff Pitching™ system.

Recreating the realism of how a pitcher spots his pitches, the Payoff Pitching™ system keeps pitching controls elegantly simple while delivering the total pitching experience of the Big Leagues. Players start pitching by picking a spot where the pitch will break and choosing a type of pitch by tapping the corresponding pitch’s button. A yellow circular cursor will appear and quickly shrink; as it shrinks, gamers simply tap their chosen pitch-type face button again to execute the most precise pitch possible. To put more effort into pitches, players hold down the face button. As the yellow circular cursor expands to the desired effort, users must then release and tap the face button to lock the pitch. Putting maximum effort into a pitch will put more oomph on a fastball or more movement on a breaking ball, but also makes it more difficult to pinpoint to a location. So, pitching becomes much more strategic as pitchers need to figure out how much a pitch will break when spotting his pitches.

When used in conjunction with Major League Baseball 2K6’s exclusive Inside Edge™ technology, if a player has the Inside Edge™ data on a specific batter, the catcher will actually call for specific pitches and locations. Lastly, gamers can make Payoff Pitching™ really “payoff” in strikeout situations (e.g. 0-2, 1-2, 2-2, and 3-2 counts). In these pitching situations, a special targeting cursor will appear as the catcher calls for the pitch. If a pitcher can spot his pitch correctly and cause the batter to strikeout, that specific pitch type will get a rating boost for that game. In big time situations, Big League pitchers rise to the competitive challenge and Payoff Pitching™ brings gamers the thrilling excitement and challenge of pitching at the Major League level.
