In a short interview with a BF 2142 fansite, DICE revealed that in order to learn about large scale issues, i.e. when 10 000’s of people playing at the same time, it plans to have a Battlefield 2142 open beta hoping to eliminate some of the problems EA encountered after previous launches. A regular demo will also be released shortly prior to the official retail launch.

EA Plans 'Battlefield 2142' Open Beta and Demo

Battlefield 2142 is set in the future, the world is plagued by a second Ice Age, and wars have broken out over the remaining territories. Mech Warrior-meets-Battlefield 2 is the best way to describe it, and it is scheduled for "Fall 2006."
