'HCA: The Ugly Prince Duckling' - 8 New Screens

by Rainier on June 9, 2006 @ 3:30 p.m. PDT

You control the 14 year old H.C. Anderson in a 3rd person adventure/action game taking place in the Copenhagen of the Golden Age around 1820. The game is inspired by HCA's famous fairytale universe but is primarily based on HCA's own life story in his pursuit of fame and success as an artist.

Your job is to help HCA save the princess who has been enchanted by the evil troll who. Slowly, an evil shadow is spreading darkness and decease by the sinister Mr. Schwartz who is the evil troll in disguise. The only way to save the day is to find the Tinderbox and bring light back to the streets and keep the princess alive.

The narrow streets are swarming with men and beast. Open gutters are overflowing with filth and disease flourishes. Success is at the mercy of having social status and earning the friendship or respect of the High Society. Interaction with as many people as possible as well as making the right friends is important - and a lot of fun!

The game is based on our proprietary AI-technology, which makes it possible for the characters to mimic human behaviour.

A good story and good gameplay is rarely enough in itself. It is also necessary, that the game looks good. Therefore, Guppyworks has put much effort in building Copenhagen of the 1820'ies in a quality you don't usually see in games."We are so lucky to have some of the most talented and skilled 3D designers on board", Per Rosendal continues.

Andreas Møller, technical director of Guppyworks, has since 2002 been developing Guppyworks' unique AI technology, used to provide characters in computer games with the ability to mimic human behaviour. "It is a technology giving us entirely new possibilities of developing better gameplay", says Andreas Møller.
