'Earth No More' (PS3/X360/PC) Revealed

by Rainier on June 18, 2007 @ 3:42 a.m. PDT

A few days ago 3D Realms revealed it had 2 major announcements coming up in the near future, and the latest issue of GameInformer might have one of them. Under development at Recoil Games, freshly formed by co-founder of Max Payne's Remedy, Earth No More is a Unreal Engine 3-powered single-player action game (with added multiplayer, co-op), currently scheduled for 2009. It's described as Aliens, War of the Worlds, Terminator, 28 Days Later, and The Thing all rolled into one...

"The development team is specifically moving away from what they call the 'lone hero,' while also avoiding a squad-based direction." "'We're going to design almost every weapon in the game to where it's going to have a sort of collaborative mode to it,' says Miller. One gun called the Linker works like a reverse proton pack from Ghostbusters."

"The good guys aren't the only ones who can team up, however. Enemies are being designed to complement each other's skills as well."

"The team is intricately analyzing how group dynamics work in movies like the Alien, The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and 28 Days Later, hoping to emulate that kind of tension in game form."
