by Rainier on June 21, 2007 @ 9:04 a.m. PDT

Asterix at the Olympic Games follows Asterix, Obelix and the faithful Dogmatix as they travel to Greece in aid of their lovesick friend Alafolix. Their journey takes them to the Olympic Games where they find themselves pitted against the athletic might of the Roman Empire. Adventure and hilarity ensue as Asterix and friends compete to get the better of Brutus, his muscle-bound champion, and their long-time nemesis, Julius Caesar himself.

“We’re very happy to be working on this project with Les Editions Albert René, a partner we have successfully collaborated with for many years and who understands the value that Atari has brought to the Asterix brand,” said Mathias Hautefort, Executive Vice President of publishing and production, Atari. “It’s an honour to be working alongside our partners on such a major project which promises to be a major landmark not just for the license, but for the European film and entertainment industry as a whole.”

The live action feature film will have the biggest production budget of any film in European cinema history and is scheduled for release across Europe in early 2008. The game, Asterix at the Olympic Games, will be revealed for the first time in July at the IDEF show, Cannes, France and will be an original, visually dazzling, and high-quality gaming experience which promises to seduce all audiences.
