'Guitar Hero' Sponsors 'The Family Values' Concert Tour

by Rainier on July 5, 2007 @ 12:17 p.m. PDT

This summer's biggest tour, Family Values, have teamed up with RedOctane's Guitar Hero to sponsor a second stage this year with an additional five bands making a total of 13 acts on the tour, as well as the largest national Guitar Hero face-off competition.

A likely pairing, rock's biggest outing including co-headliners Korn and Evanescence, Atreyu, Flyleaf, Hellyeah, and Trivium partnered with the ultimate rock star experience, "Guitar Hero," will foster hot new comers Five Finger Death Punch, Invitro, Twin Method and others to be announced shortly, on the second stage all for an added value and the best-priced lawn tickets of the summer at $9.99.

The second stage will also include the largest national competition for the nation's hottest electronic game, "Guitar Hero" to date. A "face-off" competition between eight "Guitar Hero II" finalists in each market, winners from earlier Radio Station sponsored events will play "Guitar Hero II" on stage between sets and compete for an autographed Korn guitar, band access passes and a chance to play Jonathan Davis backstage after the show.

Korn have been longstanding fans of the game with Jonathan Davis going public on his obsession with "Guitar Hero" in the Wall Street Journal in November 2006. Davis admitted to spending as much time on the tour bus playing the game as he did on stage performing! Said Davis, "This is the hottest game in the country and we are stoked to have them on the tour."

Korn, along with management company The Firm, created The Family Values Tour in 1998 with a bill headlined by Korn and performances from Rammstein, Ice Cube, Limp Bizkit and Orgy. 1999's line-up featured headliners Limp Bizkit, along with Filter, The Crystal Method, Primus, Staind, Mobb Deep, Ja Rule, and Method Man & Redman. Korn also made surprise appearances at a few dates. Beyond the live touring aspect, the debut outing of Korn Family Values Tour spawned a gold-certified live album and platinum-certified companion home video. This was followed in spring 2000 with the second live disc and long-form home video. The 2001 trek featured Stone Temple Pilots, Linkin Park, Staind, Static-X and Deadsy. Family Values continued in the summer of 2006 with Korn, Deftones, Stone Sour, Flyleaf and Dir en grey on the main stage resulting in another live cd and dvd making it one of the most consistently successful tour franchises in music history.

Guitar Hero II explodes onto the Xbox360 with over 70 songs and the revolutionary X-Plorer Controller! Selecting from a wild group of rockers and jamming at concert venues that grow in size leading your Rock Star all the way to Stonehenge. Play with a friend and shred riffs cooperatively playing the lead, bass or rhythm, or go head-to-head in one of two Face-Off Modes.
