'Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe' (PS3/X360) Goes Gold

by Rainier on Nov. 5, 2008 @ 5:05 a.m. PST

Midway mixes things up in the Mortal Kombat franchise by adding heroes from the DC Comics universe (Batman, Superman) to the mix, new characters, new moves, new settings, but no brutal fatalities.

For the first time in the series, players will step outside the Mortal Kombat universe to assume the heroic identities of world-renowned characters from the DC Universe, including Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, as they join video game icons such as Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Raiden. Making a fiendish appearance alongside their comic counterparts will be notorious DC Universe villains such as CatWoman, Lex Luthor and The Joker, who along with MK favorites such as Liu Kang, Sonya and Shao Kahn, all play a part in unraveling the mystery of what has caused these two universes to collide

“We are proud to release to manufacturing Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, the culmination of two years of effort and a rewarding collaboration with our friends at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Comics,” said Ed Boon, executive producer and co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise. “So far the response has been overwhelmingly positive and enthusiastic, and I can’t wait to get this into the hands of MK diehards and DC Comics fans alike when the game becomes available on Nov. 16 in North America and Nov. 21 throughout Europe! “

For the first time ever, Scorpion, Sub-Zero and the Mortal Kombat warriors battle with Batman, Superman and other popular DC Universe Super Heroes. Choose your side and challenge your opponents with a new fighting system including Freefall Kombat and Klose Kombat along with dynamic multi-tiered environments. Plus, pick your favorite character from MK or DCU and pursue a fighting adventure in the new single player mode with an intertwined storyline and two unique perspectives.

Featuring box art that was hand painted by Alex Ross, one of the world's most pre-eminent and respected comic book artists, the Kollector's Edition will come in special packaging and feature an exclusive removable print designed by Ross as well as bonus video content. In addition, John Tobias, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise, returns to sketch a 16-page comic book to be published by DC Comics that chronicles the shocking, universe-shattering events that lead up to the in-game story mode.
