Friday, December 12, 2008 Shipping Announcements

by Rainier on Dec. 12, 2008 @ 2:50 a.m. PST

Another day, another batch of games shipped to stores. Instead of giving them all their own posts, we grouped them, and so far there are announcements for:

  • Jutland (PC)

  • We will update this throughout the day when new announcements become available. Read more for details ...

Jutland (PC)

Jutland pushes the envelope of the real time 3D military simulations with the most realistic True Physics Ballistics ever created in a commercial wargame. Every shell fired is physically introduced into the 3D Battle-Space, where it follows a true-to-life trajectory all the way to the target. If the shell actually hits the target in the 3D world, it must then penetrate the armor of the ship’s hull, deck, or turret based on the thickness at the polygon impact point!

On top of that, Storm Eagle Studios has created an unprecedented 3D naval game environment, featuring hundreds of highly detailed, historically accurate 3D WWI Battleships, Cruisers, Destroyers, and Torpedo Boats from the countries of Germany, England, and France.

Rendering ships out to 36,000 meters is totally unheard in naval gaming today, yet Jutland delivers it with ease. Add that to a plethora of new features, Jutland is destined to become the new standard for 3D Real time Naval Gaming!

Jutland packs all of the essential features you would expect from Norm Koger & Jim Rose, the team that brought you Award Winning games since 1988 including The Age of Rifles, West Front, Age of Sail, and The Operational Art of War, just to name a few!

What is a Scenario Battle?

A scenario-battle is a stand alone historical battle that can usually be played in a couple of hours. Some of the larger scenarios can take a couple of sessions to complete. Scenarios usually have a fixed goal the gamer must achieve to win. The Battle Editor expands the replay value greatly by giving the naval gamer access to the wealth of FAN created scenarios available throughout the internet.

What is a Campaign?

In a nutshell, you are the Admiral of the Navy for the North Sea Fleet and you must carry out your duty! A campaign game is basically a game where you manage the available North Sea Naval Forces for either England or Germany during a specified period of WWI. In this case we have one campaign that lasts the month of May, 1916 and one that lasts all of 1916. During a campaign game, you manage groups of ships, called task forces, and attempt to carry out various missions needed by your side to win the game. An example would be that the German must shell cities and towns along the English coast for propaganda purposes. Or they must try and raid English merchant shipments heading for the British Isles.

The English player, on the side of the coin, must patrol the shipping lanes and protect the merchant ships from attack. If the German is shelling English Coastal Towns, he must hunt down and intercept the German Costal raiders. These are just a few examples of different missions available.

Jutland can be purchased in two flavors. A Standard Edition gives the gamer a wide swath of WWI Heavy Metal warships to play with. The Professional Edition expands the scope of the WWI North Sea clash to cover the entire 1916 campaign! It also opens up the gamer to the Jutland Battle Editor (Scenario Editor) and the ability to create-share-download and play an ever increasing number of Fan created Battles!
