'Dash of Destruction' This Week's XBLA Title, For Free

by Rainier on Dec. 15, 2008 @ 1:23 p.m. PST

Winner of last year's Doritos promotion, Dash of Destruction is a fun and fast-paced racing game. Play as a hungry Tyrannosaurus Rex, destroying everything in your path as you chase a speeding delivery truck full of tasty Doritos, or, try zooming in and out of the T-Rex's path of destruction as a terrified delivery truck in search of your Doritos drop-off points.

Doritos' Dash of Destruction is a fun and fast-paced racing game.

Charge your way through the city as a hungry Tyrannosaurus Rex, destroying everything in your path as you chase a speeding delivery truck full of tasty Doritos. Or, try zooming in and out of the T-Rex's path of destruction as a terrified delivery truck in search of your Doritos drop-off points. For even more racing madness, play in Chaos mode with up to four friends as each of your dinosaurs chase after the same truck. If it's peace and serenity you're looking for, try Zen mode, where your only goal is to complete all your deliveries before time runs out. But watch out, for you really are what you eat. Beat the clock and taste victory!

The city environment will be completely destructible, but smashing into a building will take away speed. By knocking down buildings, the dinosaur can block the driver from taking roads. The player will have the ability to have the dinosaur lean as it is taking a turn. This will help with sharp turns, but lean too far and the dinosaur will fall or slide. The dinosaur will be slower to accelerate than the truck, but can maintain a higher top speed. Cornering or hitting buildings, walkways, bridges or will take away speed. Parks and golf courses will provide valuable shortcuts for the T-Rex.

The dinosaur can lunge and bite down to capture the truck, but if the bite misses, speed is lost. As the dinosaur, the player will be able to track/smell the truck by orange tire marks left by truck. The truck will be slightly faster at accelerating, but have a lower top speed. (It gets a head start!)

The truck driver will need to drive under walkways and bridges to gain distance between the truck and the dinosaur. The driver will have to be careful and not get boxed in by fallen buildings. The driver can weave back and forth to try to keep the dinosaur from biting the truck. The truck can also take corners slightly faster than the T-Rex.

A GPS indicator in the corner of the screen will point to the goal of a safe tunnel. In a two player game, one player will be a dinosaur and the other will be the truck driver. The game is a cat-and-mouse version of Need for Speed.

Features :

  • Great gameplay: Play as a T-Rex destroying buildings, public structures, and other elements, or play as the Delivery Truck attempting to make your deliveries in unique levels tailored for fun.
  • Game modes: It's fast-paced single and multiplayer gameplay with Zen and Chaos mode for crazy fun.
  • By popular demand: The game idea was created by Mike Borland, and was chosen by popular vote as a part of the Doritos' Unlock Xbox Challenge.

Oh yeah, did we mention that? This game is free!
