'God of War' (PS2/PSP) Movie Gets Script And Director

by Rainier on July 24, 2008 @ 6:29 p.m. PDT

God Of War makes powerful use of the darkly imaginative world of Ancient Greek mythology, where the realms of the mortal and the divine collide in a pervasive atmosphere of brute force and violence. Playing as Kratos, throughout the game players will wield double blades bound to his body by long chains, weapons symbolic of this vicious world to which he is bound and the fate from which he seeks to escape.
We haven't really heard news on the God of War movie for a few years, ever since Universal secured the movie rights from Sony. Set in ancient Greece, God of War follows the battles of the warrior Kratos, who tackles mythological beasts including Medusa, Cyclops and the Hydra on his quest to find Pandora's Box and destroy Ares, the god of war. The movie script was written by David Self, known for Road to Perdition, and will be produced by Brett Ratner, known for the Rush Hour movies, X-Men, and various Prison Break episodes. There has no date been set to start shooting, let alone an estimated theatrical launch.
