Monday, September 22, 2008 Shipping Announcements

by Rainier on Sept. 22, 2008 @ 3:12 a.m. PDT

Another day, another batch of games shipped to stores. Instead of giving them all their own posts, we grouped them, and so far there are announcements for:

Baja: Edge of Control (PS3/X360)

From the core founding members of the MX vs. ATV franchise, BAJA: Edge of Control lets players conquer towering mountains and unpredictable terrain in the most realistic off-road racing game ever created.

“Baja: Edge of Control offers a realistic simulation of a Baja race, where managing the vehicle’s tires, clutch and brakes at speeds of over 100 mph is the key to victory,” said Peter Matiss, Vice President of Global Brand Management, THQ. “For those that prefer to get straight into the action, the game also offers an arcade mode that removes vehicle management and focuses on the intensity of off -road racing.”

“Baja: Edge of Control delivers the ultimate Baja racing experience.” said Robb Rinard, Game Designer, 2XL Games. “For the truly hardcore, the game offers races that can last up to four hours across hundreds of miles of brutal terrain for up to 10 players online or 4 players via split screen.”

Baja: Edge of Control is now available for the suggested retail price of $59.99.

de Blob (Wii)

Utilizing Wii’s innovative motion-sensing controller, de Blob invites players to launch a color revolution by bouncing, smashing and painting Chroma City back to life through their creative use of color and music.

“de Blob is a must-have game for every Wii owner as it offers something for everyone. From the creative pick-up-and-play action to challenging platformer gameplay and multiplayer options, de Blob delivers an exciting new experience to Wii,” said Randy Shoemaker, director, global brand management, THQ. “de Blob focuses on a positive message of restoration and allows players to flex their creative muscles, adding a unique, personal touch to the game’s rich storyline.”

“de Blob was developed from the ground up as a platformer game that takes unique advantage of Wii’s gameplay mechanics,” said Nick Hagger, producer, Blue Tongue Entertainment. “A highly intuitive control scheme will have players bouncing and painting as de Blob in no time as they begin a vibrant adventure of restoration.”

The evil I.N.K.T. Corporation has declared “Color is a Crime!", robbing the beautiful and vibrant Chroma City of all color and imprisoning its citizens. Only the iconic hero de Blob can flip, bounce and paint his way past the evil Inkys to launch a color revolution and save Chroma City from a future without color. Developed by THQ’s Blue Tongue Entertainment, players take on the heroic role of de Blob and lead an underdog group of determined Color Revolutionaries in a battle against massive tank battalions, speedy I.N.K.T. racers and elite Inky soldiers on a quest to free the citizens of Chroma City. Deadly traps also await de Blob on his perilous journey to the impenetrable I.N.K.T. Fortress, including hot plates, electric shocks and Inky turrets. Featuring a deep, single-player campaign spanning ten levels, numerous quick-fire sprint challenges and over eight multiplayer options for up to four people, de Blob allows players to creatively remix the city by using custom paints, patterns and soundtracks. The race to rescue Chroma City has just begun, and only de Blob can save the world from a black-and-white future!

de Blob is available for a suggested retail price of $49.99.

Wario Land: Shake It! (Wii)

Wario Land Shake It! looks like a hand-drawn cartoon that players can control. It’s a classic-style side-scrolling game in which players navigate Wario through a series of enemies and hazards. The game features motion controls: Players shake the Wii Remote controller to help Wario shake down his enemies, free coins from treasure bags and even cause earthquakes. Wario’s narcissistic personality is on full display as he sets out to get his hands on the Bottomless Coin Sack.

“Nintendo has one of the largest stables of beloved video game characters on the planet,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Kirby and Wario’s new games will give veteran players challenges to enjoy while introducing novice players to these iconic video game personalities.”

Kirby Super Star Ultra (NDS)

What Wario is to greed, Kirby is to kindness. But the little pink powerhouse is not to be trifled with. Fans know that Kirby has the ability to inhale enemies and copy their abilities, a trait used to progress through the game and defeat anyone who gets in the way. Kirby Super Star Ultra for the Nintendo DS updates the beloved Super NES classic including new graphics, new adventures and new challenges. In local wireless mode, up to four Nintendo DS owners can compete, even if they only have one game card.
